White Pepper Crab - S$31.00

Suddenly had a craving for crabs after watching Channel U's "Singapore's Flavour" introducing Singapore's Chilli Crabs in China, Japan & London.
My bro mentioned that there's a nice stall at Punggol that's worth trying. Decided to go there to try it out.
Tho it's quite expensive but it's really worth it. The meat is so firm and succulent. The flavour of white pepper is just right. Not too strong that it numbs my taste bud. I've tried other stalls which were so peppery that it totally numb my taste bud.
It's a long wait as the Q is forever so long. I believe you can call to place your order first before you reach. I'll be back there again to try out the other flavours they have to offer!

Lets put it this way. Maybe I'm being spoilt for choices when it comes to good quality Japanese food. I've been introduced to many good quality Japanese food by Henry. My company has decided to go for a get together dinner at Suki Sushi. I was extremely disappointed as it has failed to deliver any edible standard for the food we had ordered.

I've ordered the Salmon Ikura Don. The salmon slices were badly sliced and the slice of each piece was uneven. It even taste stale. I totally can't taste the sweetness of the fish at all. The ikura is equally disappointing. It's not fresh and it doesn't really burst in your mouth if you know what I mean. It also has a bitter after taste. And the rice? OMG! Too much vinegar in the rice and the rice was so super compact into the bowl. I don't think this can even be considered as japanese rice. I can't even pick a mouthful of rice with my chopsticks at all. It was so bad that this is how much was left untouched. I think if I use it to make it into a rice ball I could easily kill someone with it.

I thot the Cha Soba might be better than my Salmon Ikura Don. Boy! Was I wrong too. It's just a milder version of Wrigley's chewing gum. Trying too hard to be al dante.

Finally the dessert! I was thinking again how wrong could it be with pre-packed food? Guess what? I was wrong again! I thot I was chewing on a baseball! Maybe if I try throwing it on the floor it might bounce like a marble and start rolling off under the table.

As for the service quality? I do not know how best I could describe it. You can see staff gathering at the entrance talking away while you are trying damn hard to get their attention. Made me felt like I'm back to school raising my hand and waving damn hard to get someone's attention. Come to think of it. Even my teachers in school react faster than the waiters and waitress.

I guess Suki Sushi did not even consider getting any water jugs as well. Each time they refill your glass of ice water, they had to take your glass to some secretive corner to refill it. It really makes me wonder at the end of the day did I get back my own glass. Would I end up drinking my water from someone else's glass?

Just when I thot that Sakae Sushi was at the bottom of the ladder, Suki Sushi really gave me a big surprise. This is the first and the last time I'll ever stepped into a Suki Sushi restaurant.

Oh yes! Actually the only thing that I do not have any complains on the quality is that glass of ice water I had. It tasted really good and really helps me to wash away the bad taste in my mouth from all the above non-edible food.

double bay
australian restaurant & bar
252 North Bridge Road, #01-22A Raffles City Shopping Centre Singapore 179103
Tel: +65 6334 6530 Fax: +65 6334 6107
http://www.doublebay.com.sg/

double bay serve mainly 'Live' Fish & Chips. The fish comes with choice of Beer Batter, Sumac & Coriander Batter or Breaded.

To truly enjoy the taste of fresh fish, the flesh should be almost unseasoned so as to bring out the original taste of the different fish species. To the undiscerning, this may be misunderstood to produce a bland taste. However, for those who love fish, this will allow them to savour the natural taste of these fishes.

Organic Mushroom Soup - S$9.90

This bowl of mushroom soup looks just like any other mushroom soup you will see at other restaurant. If you really think it is then you are absolutely WRONG! With a scoop of your soup spoon, you will find a slow cooked egg at the bottom of your soup. The yolk of the egg is still soft and runny. So you better just finish the yolk in one mouth. Thumbs Up for the soup!

Shepherd's Pie - ermmm... I forgot the price.

The shepherd's pie is made up of premium Australian minced beef, carrots, onions & celery. The serving is pretty huge. It's definitely not for one person. I went with a guy friend and we could not even finish the entire pie. Cripsy crust and moist filling. It definitely taste great! Beware! Do not eat it alone!

Australian Barramundi - S$21.90

Barramundi is also known as the Giant Perch, Giant Sea Perch, Asian Sea Bass, Australian Sea Bass, White Sea Bass and by a variety of names. It is also nicknamed the Silver Jack.

Flesh Texture: Soft, white, Less Fatty, Less Flaky

I've chosen the Beer Batter. But as they have introduced. You can only taste the freshness of the fish. The taste of the beer batter can hardly even cover the original taste of the fish. I quite enjoy the fish tho. As for the fries, if you do not want a heart attack I suggest you leave them alone.

Ju Hao La Mian Xiao Long Bao
Lavender Food Centre
125 Lavender Street

This stall was just opened not long ago. So I decided to give it a try. It's not easy to make nice handmade noodles. I love the chewy texture of the fresh noodles. They serve knife shredded noodles too.

Sichuan Veg with Shredded Meat Lamian - S$4.00

The soup base is very aromatic. This is due to the sichuan vegetables and the shredded meat. The taste of the soup is just right. I was afraid it might be too salty but to my surprised it's not.

The noodles are also very chewy aka QQ. Just something to note for those who loves their noodles to be chewy, do not wait too long to finish up the noodles or let the noodles sit in the soup for too long as it will get soggy.

Onion Pancake(葱油饼)- S$3.00

I like the onion pancake. Maybe it's freshly made as well. It's served piping hot and crispy! It has a nice taste of a prata with spring onions! Smells great too! I'll definitely order this the next time I visit Lavender Food Centre.

I'll try their Xiao Long Bao and Guo Tie the next time I'm there!
